Bernardes was born in Goiania - GO, Brazil and is an occupational health and safety technician from the National Service for Commercial Education - MG (SENAC) (2010), with BSc. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power System and Control and Automation System from the Federal University of Uberlândia (2010), with Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC) at the University of São Paulo (USP) (2013), and with PhD's degree in Electrical Engineering at EESC, from USP (2018). He has undertaken a mobility period (Sandwich PhD) supported by the prestigious scholarship of the European Commission's Erasmus Mundus programme in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. Bernardes was an intern at CEMIG Generation and Transmission S/A in 2010 and he was invited to visit The Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto (INESC, Portugal) in 2013. He has significant experience involving projects in power systems, which were granted by research foundations (FAPEMIG and FAPESP - Brazil) and utility (ISA - CTEEP). He is the author and co-author of a number of papers presented in Brazil and abroad. He was a student member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers - IEEE (2009 - 2018) and of the Brazilian Society of Automatics. At present, Bernardes is a professor at the Federal University of Uberlandia, Campus Santa Monica. His research fields include energy efficiency, power system protection, power quality, smart grid, optimization and applications of artificial intelligence in electrical networks.
